FAQs

1.  How are your reviews structured?
Blurber Blabber is structured with two kinds of reviews: (1) a blurb review that is short, and (2) a blabber review that is longer, more detailed, and filled with spoilers.  I always struggled with finding the right reviews at the right time.  When I am deciding whether to buy a book I want a review that is short and covers the key facts.  And after I read a book, I like to read a more in-depth review that covers everything, including spoilers.  And so I created Blurber Blabber with the two part review!  The blurb review is before the jump and the blabber review is after the jump.  I hope that you enjoy this format and find it useful!

2.  What is your rating system?
My rating system consists of the following levels:
  • Buy it now!
  • Buy it used or on sale
  • Put it on your wishlist
  • Borrow it from the library
  • Stays on the shelf
This isn't like a typical stars review or grading system because there may be some really good books that I would recommend borrowing from the library or buying it used or on sale because they're old books with a lot of used copies floating around in stores or in the library.

I wanted a rating system that relates to how I would evaluate a book purchase.  I've had many great books that I bought on sale or at the library and likewise I've had some great, but not fantastic, books I've bought right away partly because I wanted the hot books on the scene to read right away.  So it really depends on the situation and varying factors.

This is also why I added the poll at the end of each post.  I'm curious to see what others think and how opinions may or may not change over time.

3. How do you choose what books to review?
Most of my book reviews are books that I've already read and love.  How I go about finding books in general, is just word of mouth, reading reviews, doing online research and browsing bookstores.  I read a lot of different kinds of books ranging from classics, novels, non-fiction (usually history or focused on specific and random topics), children's, young adult and fantasy.  When I have the time, I love to dig around and find new books that I think I'll like based off of my favorite reads.  I hope to bring some of my research into this blog to help with recommendations.  And if you have any good recommendations, please let me know!
